Catalan artist Manuel Blesa works from his studio in Sitges, a lively coastal resort near Barcelona with a well established artistic colony. The majority of his work depicts the popular earthenware of Aragon, Catalonia, Castile & Valencia. He has also produced a series of homages, still life paintings dedicated to the work of the many famous Spanish and international artists who have influenced him and which incorporate studies of artists materials, well known paintings and objects found in his studio.
Blesa met Salvador Dali in 1971 and was influenced by his technique as were many of the artists of that era who came into contact with his circle.
He states in the latest catalogue of his work that ‘I seek to provide each of the objects that I paint with its own intimate and most personal value’ and he achieves this through a profound attention to detail and impeccable drawing.
Blesa’s work is well known and collected in Spain, France and
the United States and was the subject of a major London exhibition in
1996. Since 2000 his work has also been featured in one of Amsterdam’s
premier galleries.
