Wold Galleries first opened as the Halford House Galleries in the 1960's and while they have experienced several changes of name in the following years the wish to nurture up and coming artists and to show the finest contemporary work available within an affordable price range has remained the first principle throughout this period. The Galleries formed a significant part of a Grade II listed 19th Century building set in the heart of one of the Cotswolds most popular villages, Bourton-on-the-Water, graced by the slowly flowing Windrush river with its characteristic bridges. The area has great charm and attraction for its many summer and winter visitors. In 2005 the galleries re-located to an 18th Century building in Oxford Street, Moreton-in-Marsh. Moreton is a busy market town north of Bourton & Stow-on-the-Wold at the junction of the Fosse Way and the A44 Oxford-Worcester Road In addition to the Spring and Autumn mixed exhibitions, the Galleries also hold a number of more specialised events and one man shows throughout the year. The Galleries regularly feature the work of approximately 30 - 40 British & International artists, some of whom are local to the area and whose talents spread across the mediums of oil, watercolour, pastel, acrylic, glass, ceramic and bronze. |
